Save the Homies: Fighting Prostate Cancer Together

Empowering Black men to take charge of their health through awareness, action, and early detection.

We are on a mission to tackle one of the most pressing health inequities in the Black community: prostate cancer. This initiative was born out of a sobering reality—Iowa has the second-highest cancer incidence rate in the United States. While the national cancer incidence rate is declining, Iowa's is rising faster than any other state. For Black men in Iowa, the numbers are even

Higher Prostate Cancer Risk
Black men are 76% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer compared to white men.
Higher Mortality Rate
Black men are 2.5 times more likely to die from prostate cancer than white men.
Late Diagnosis
Black men are more likely to be diagnosed at advanced stages, where treatment options are limited.
Barriers to Screening
Nearly 30% of Black men who should be screened for prostate cancer never get tested.

Why We Started.

We couldn’t stand by knowing that Black men in our community were facing higher rates of new prostate cancer cases and higher death rates compared to white men. Through this initiative.

On a Mission.

Our goal is to register 1,000 eligible Black men for PSA screenings and provide them with the education and support they need to prioritize their health. Through storytelling, community outreach, and innovative initiatives like the Save the Homies documentary, we’re creating impactful change that honors every life. Together, we can rewrite the narrative. Together, we can Save the Homies.
